Here at Shoestring, we aim to do a very simple thing: provide a platform for young and emerging artists. We love unique talent, quirky personalities, and the ability of young artists to teach us something we don’t already know.
For each issue we provide a theme and we ask you to interpret that theme in whatever way you like. This keeps the submissions fresh and exciting. Shoestring is currently accepting issues for its fourth publication: The Berlin Issue.
We welcome the following:
Fiction
Short stories should be no more than 1,500 words, and flash fiction is fine too! We love fiction that challenges, surprises and inspires us.
Poetry
Poems under 40 lines are preferable, and you can submit up to three per issue.
Photography
Fashion, architecture, street photography…ideally with a Parisian focus. You can upload photos to the flickr page for our perusal, or just email them over. The images need to be 4000 pixels wide and 300dpi, no exceptions!
Illustration
No requirements, just make it look lovely! Again, the images need to be 4000 pixels wide and 300dpi.
Unfortunately, we cannot afford to send contributors free copies of the magazine, nor can we cover the production costs of your submission. We will however credit you with every name that you supply us with, and of course the copyright remains with you. We do ask that you have received permission from the whole team involved in your submission before sending it to us. We also quite often do not know exactly what will be in the magazine until we have signed off the final copy, so please bear with us! Once we have done this, we will let all the successful applicants know by email. We also ask that if you are included in the magazine, that you help to promote us to your friends, family and followers.
The Technical Bits:
Please send submissions to shoestringnorth@googlemail.com, with SUBMISSION in the title, followed by your full name, and a brief description of your work. In the body of the email, please supply a 50-75 word bio for yourself.
In the email please supply ALL credits.
After the deadline, it takes two and a half months for the magazine to be signed off and ready for eyes. Please don’t call/email us after sending your submission- let us contact you!
The deadline is Tuesday 20th of November 2012.
